The Unique Energy of Moorea
When I first brought a retreat group to Moorea, I expected powerful encounters with humpback whales. What surprised me was the island itself.
One by one, participants experienced profound emotional releases unlike anything I had witnessed during whale retreats anywhere else. Something here was different.
Before returning to Moorea, I asked the whales why. What they showed me forever changed how I see this island. They showed me pure white energy rising from deep within the Earth through the ancient volcanic heart of Moorea. Flowing through this light were sacred symbols carrying the wisdom of Gaia herself. The energy spread across the lush green mountains and out toward the sea, where the whales gathered along the shoreline to receive it. As the Earth energy flowed over them, the symbols became etched upon their bodies. Then, as the whales traveled across the oceans, those symbols slowly dissolved, releasing their wisdom throughout the world.
Even more remarkable, the whales told me these same sacred symbols are reflected in traditional Polynesian tattoos, honoring the wisdom that flows from the Earth itself. Years later, I shared this vision with a young Tahitian man. After listening quietly, he simply smiled and said, "Yes. That's right."

Meet Arii
Our Friend. Our Captain. Our Guardian of the Whales.
Every year one of my favorite moments is arriving at the dock and seeing Arii's smile waiting for us. I've worked with boat captains all over the world during nearly twenty years of leading whale retreats. None compare to Arii.
He doesn't simply know where to find whales. He knows how to be with them.
His respect, patience, and love for these magnificent beings is evident in every encounter. He still becomes as excited as we do when a whale breaches, a curious calf swims over, or something unexpected unfolds before our eyes.
Over the years we've developed a wonderful friendship built on our shared love of humpback whales. His English isn't perfect. My French is almost nonexistent. I always laugh and tell people, "I don't speak French... I speak Arii." Somehow we understand each other perfectly. Perhaps friendship has its own language. Or perhaps the whales helped translate.
The boats in Moorea are required to keep a 100 meter distance (Approx. 100 yards) from the whales.
You must be comfortable and confident at:
- Swimming 100 meters (yards) several times each day.
- Snorkeling in the open ocean, sometimes in waves and choppy water.
- Being able to climb in and out of a small boat on a swim ladder
- Being on a boat for 5 hours each day with no bathroom other than the ocean.
